Testimonials

"The Deaf Society of NSW Interpreting Service (SLC) has been of great assistance and support to myself and our organisation over the past year and continues to be always there for any thing that we ask of them.

Our Organisation has Recruited Deaf Care workers to provide services for our Deaf and Deaf/Blind clients the SLC team has provided us with the best suited interpreters from the start of our Recruitment process, interviews and then for the successful applicants the interpreters were there for days of training, interpreting many policies and procedures and also manual handling training with Occupational Therapists for the new Careworkers.

There is also the ongoing support needed from the interpreters they are there for all the care worker team meetings and individual Support and Supervisions and any other Team event that may occur. The staff from SLC always very understanding and prompt when changes occur to scheduled meetings to either cancel or change to an alternative date.

Over the past year I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with many different Interpreters they all have been very friendly and also very professional in every situation with our Organisation.

Looking forward to many more experiences in the future working with the DSNSW."

"The Deaf Society is to be commended for its excellent approach to providing top-quality Auslan interpreters. By requiring their interpreters to keep up to date with professional development, current interpreting trends and changes in sign language, I know I can be assured that when I work with an interpreter provided by the Deaf Society, that interpreter is well-informed and committed to providing a top-quality interpreting service.

The Deaf Society Interpreting Service (now known as SLC NSW) is also to be applauded for its commitment to continuous quality improvement through regular consultations with the Deaf community and providing updates on the service via its website and newsletters."

"The Deaf Society of NSW Interpreting Service (now known as SLC NSW) is a fantastic "one-stop shop" for my interpreting needs at my workplace - including on-site interpreting or Video Remote Interpreting for meetings, training or other functions. This service provides high-quality interpreters meeting the needs of the clients whenever possible, and observes all of the ethics and OHS standards for interpreting.

I am also pleased to see their service extend beyond the scope of paid interpreting, with unpaid/donated interpreting services for select services, driving professional development for their registered interpreters, and working closely with other organisations in the interpreting field (such as ASLIA) and the Deaf community (such as Deaf Australia NSW)."

"I have used this interpreting service intensively for my various professional and personal needs. I highly recommend their services - the Interpreting in-house staff are very patient, professional and prompt especially with a number of meetings that were cancelled or postponed at a very short notice.

The service's internship program for newly accredited interpreters is producing very positive results for sign language interpreters. Basically I know I am working with a professional sign language interpreter when I request for one from the Deaf Society of NSW.

Thank you Deaf Society of NSW for its passion, energy and commitment to the Deaf and hard of hearing communities. Keep up the good work!"

"I have been working as an interpreter for almost a decade now, I enjoy my work as much now as I did when I began interpreting. Sometimes the task of interpreter is a very intimidating one, in order to do the best job we can, we sometimes need to make ourselves very vulnerable. We are constantly entering someone else’s life, someone else’s workplace, or environment - sometimes not knowing what to expect. When I’m working for SLC I have the support of a professional team that understand, not only my needs as an interpreter, but also the needs of those I am working with. SLC provide me with the opportunity to improve my skills and challenge myself within my profession. SLC’s commitment to me as an interpreter allows me to work to the best of my ability during my interpreting assignments."

"I choose to work for Deaf Society of NSW as an interpreter because of their commitment to providing a safe and professional working environment.

I have participated in many of DSNSW's professional development workshops and was also privileged enough to take part in the John Ferris Interpreter Internship Program in 2008. All of the training I have undertaken with DSNSW has been of the highest quality, and my interpreting skills have improved dramatically as a result of the mentoring I received during my time as an intern.

It is my belief that DSNSW is not only an exceptional service provider to the Deaf community and to hearing clients, but is also an exceptional employer of interpreters."

"As a recently qualified interpreter I was nervous and apprehensive about the thought of walking into my first job, even though I’d had a lot of classroom training I was scared about starting out. The John Ferris Internship Program is one of the best journeys I have ever been on. The variety of jobs I was exposed to, the different Deaf people that I met and all the different areas that I worked in is incredible. And knowing that there is a mentor with me every step of the way who will make sure that I won’t drown is a safety net that anyone can appreciate. A mentor that won’t let you make any terrible mistakes and will provide you with detailed feedback afterwards. I learnt to be more self aware of my skills, strengths and weaknesses – everybody can benefit from feedback!!! I cannot recommend enough this program – anyone that can, should apply."

"I have no hesitation in recommending SLC National for Auslan interpreters.  I have used their services on a daily basis for over five years and find their level of professionalism outstanding.  They are always willing to meet my individual requirements and respond to any queries I have promptly.  They always endeavour to allocate appropriately skilled interpreters on a regular basis enabling me to build up a rapport with those interpreters and for them to gain an understanding of the nature of my work and the jargon.

The main reason I use the services of SLC National, other than their professionalism and tailored service, is because any profit go back to the deaf community through the many initiatives and programs that Deaf Societies provide.  As a member of the deaf community, this is significant."

" I have used SLC WA in the past year and i find that the service they provided is not only in a professional standard, but SLC WA matched my individual preference which is much more important to me. I will always recommend anyone who needed to use an Auslan Interpreter to use SLC WA - Full Stop."
